I use a hose connected to the existing quick connect, about 6 long. Based on my estimates of what I removed from the boards, it looks like the chips take up about 8X more volume than the wood removed. And if nothing else, I can still just put a 4 hose on it and run this into a trash can outside to trap the bulk of the chips and avoid blowing them all over my driveway. As others have said, the built in blower will work with a simple dust bag attached. It would need a 4 port and of course a zipper or similar for emptying it. They are very light weight as compared to the much finer dust from my table saw. I had to use a rubber adapter I got in the plumbing dept. But wanted something to deal with this to start. My ambient filter kept the fine dust down to insignificant levels throughout the use of the unit.

Now I have the planer hooked to a 5" metal duct system that goes to a Super Dust Deputy and DC that exhausts straight outside, so no filter to overpower. Found out the wrong way. It off to Horror Fright to get his own collector. Long reply. Larger board width and especially species and cut depth can make longer, more clog prone chips. So I can see why this works. Unfortunately, commenters already asked the guy about the bag, and he didnt respond. Though if this is as loud as everyone says, Ill have to be mindful of me neighbors. My planer has always left a small amount of chips on the bed, but not enough for me to be concerned and want to change anything. Ive yet to even turn this planer on. I picked up a 4 to 2 1/2 adapter locally and will be set to at least try the shop vac with Dust Deputy. They do a pretty good job of barfing up sawdust with the internal blower, but in my experience you want: Shop Va with a particle/dust separator "in front" of it, or. Its best to let the internal blower of the 735 blow the chips into a much larger container, or into a hose connected to a very large shop dust collector. I built a Thien Baffle over a 20g garbage can all on a mobile base and set the planer on top. What strategies are folks using for dust collection? It also has a hefty blower in it for chip removal and I simply use my shop vac and a dust deputy too with no issues. Even the simplest DIY versions capture a ton of dust.

Since this was my first experience with a planer, I was surprised at the volume of chips. I have one of the newer Ridgid planers with the chip extractor. Here are some variations on the idea. DeWalt used to offer an attachment like you are describing. But I can run the planer and watch the exhaust and I can't see any dust so the SDD is doing its job and is not being overpowered. I will of course have to rig up the hose connection.

A friend bought himself the same planer recently and was surprised at the mess it could make of his shop with no collection at all! The Fora platform includes forum software by XenForo, Dust Deputy 10 gal. That is how I started out with mine but then I built a super dust deputy outfit with an old Grizzly 2 HP motor. Ive seen a craftsman planer that also has a built in blower and comes with a bag to fit over the top of a garbage can, however, I can make no testament as to how well it works, only that it exists.

When I bought the planer, I also bought the DeWalt 7353 hose and barrel cover accessory, which no longer seems to be available (I cant understand why). After being frustrated with dust I came up with a cheap solution using a 5 gallon drywall bucket. Any dust collector with a hose smaller than 3 diameter is not going to be capable of handling the velocity of the 735 exhaust port either. A shop vac will handle the 735 just fine but I can't recommend the particle separator enough, be it with a shop vac or a dust collector. It certainly looks the same as the DeWalt 7353 accessory in the available pictures of it. As others have said, the chip ejector fan is so powerful you can just use a hose and pillowcase, vented trashcan, etc. a tip/strategy to share? They can be a little pricey but You can DIY a simple one, simple, for almost nothing that may not be as good as one you buy but it will be a gazillion percent better than not having one. I dont let that get completely full, but Id say at least 4 gal each time. Did spew some chips when the hose popped off the DD due to the positive pressure. I always use it outside my shop with the original DeWalt hose and barrel cover attached to the top of a 55 gallon plastic barrel, and I can fill that barrel in about an hour of planning. Im using a Rockler 5 micron dust bag with 4 opening and a 10 foot/4 hose. FYI: While early days, and Im a novice planer user, I was very pleased with the DeWalt 735.

Have 2 stage DC with super dust deputy, and many chips went through the filter filling bucket, filter and line. The finish, whether paint, wax, stain, or something else, can make or break a project.
It works really really well.

Some people seems to make this work. Wood, your hand tools, you and a little know-how. It does a great job of collecting the chips, as long as the draw string keeps the cover on the barrel DAMHIKT. I use a 55 gallon plastic barrel that I cut one end out of.
