woodworking without jointer or planer

I am a bit confused. Ill go with the planer, probably a makita since i cant find Dewalt planers here. I ran into the same problem with jointing lumber to make table tops. In general, planers are for the face and jointers are for the edges but sometimes you may or can use them both cross ways. If the board is too thin and will roll over, then temporarily fasten it to another board that is either the same height or lower.
