Your looking at more like $1300, if you do it correctly, by fiberglassing/epoxy both the inside and outside of the tank to prevent any kind of bowing. 3/4 " PVC + connections & valves 50.00 I immediately sank in corner screws and then squeegeed of excess glue (yuck!). I sanded after the fourth coat and had no need for filler, I attribute this to good plywood. I must add the reason for waiting for three days is that during this time I had freezing rain and did not want to rush things. I eventually and sold them to recoup the money I spent building this one.

I am building a plywood glass tank right now its 80% done. One 2 gal two part epoxy paint 32.00 I measured off where each screw should be, and then piloted each hole. I'm set, all I need to do now is find a place to build it. Not cheap. i saw a pic with like 3 whale sharks from that aquarium on to the topic. A huge sigh of relief but, I still didn't have a large tank. With no neighbor around I pour a glass of wine, pull up a chair, and begin the filling up of "The Aquarium". that's what I was going for, I currently have multiple aquariums but wanted 1 larger aquarium where I could house most of my fish and get a few more, I think 8' by 30" by 2' is what I'm going to go with.

To answer your questions the reason I used the sweetwater epoxy paint is because when I started this project I diddnt know about west systems epoxy so I used fiberglass resign and cloth that I bought by the gallon at the auto parts store. I found that this was a godsend.

I think he had a little trouble sealing the acrylic front, but eventually got it right. I have heard of a 2000 gallon tank being built this way. looking great so far. Looking at 10' X 4' now. By the end of the day I had built the bulk of what now was to be considered "The Aquarium". I forgot the size of my piece of glass, but it was atleast $200 for the hunk with polished edges.
2- Actinic bulbs 40.00 ok well guess i better start saving more money i did watch the gay that made a 400 plywood tank on here and he mentioned that he couldve done it with acrylic for the about the same price.
I ran the glue down the edge in an "S" formation and the returned down the same edge going the other way ( so far this appears to be working). I waited 1 hour before starting the side panels. Pour the ends, router the rabbets, and assemble in place. MOst tanks I have seen larger than my 125 were thicker than 1/2" (my 125 is 1/2" and bows considerably). After the third day I got a break on the weather so I lifted one edge of "The Aquarium" on a four wheeled dolly and pushed it outside where I began to paint using the 2-part epoxy Home Depot carried. I found a whole world of info on aquariums and experience from others, yet nothing on building a successful large aquarium. I couldn't wait to tell someone, but no one cares if you built a trough so I kept my excitement to a select few who didn't laugh well not in front of me anyway. If you are just looking for size cuts to plywood home depot can do those for you easily.

There are lots of videos about aquarium building from all sorts of materials on Youtube. HomeDepot will cut the plywood for you as they have an upright track saw. Which would need thicker glass. The glass is 95" by 23 1/2" the glass is 95" by 23 1/2" the glass cost me $320.00 with beveled polished edges. Very few basements in the gulf coast, we have this thing called Ground Water that likes to ruin basements. If you would like to see pics so u can get some ideas just let me know. A truly large aquarium would not be a good first build.

I wait three days. While I was impressed with the though of heaving a mega tank where enormous fish can be kept, I also realize that of spending that kind of money for any tank is just out of the question IMO. Part of me considered doing a 10' long tank but the seam makes me nervous. Well that sucks. All content here is available for continued discussion at the new forums.
I would probably let the panels cure completely and then use a router to machine the edges perfect, and another pass to remove the epoxy down to bare wood on the seams.
