After this volcanic bedrock formed, a period of subduction then helped to create many of the mountains in the region. Although not nearly as popular with hikers and climbers as the nearby Mount Borah, Doublespring Peak can be climbed from late June through October. The mountain's most distinctive feature is its multi-colored southwest face, but the north face has the honor of being one of the most challenging snow climbs in the area. The easiest and most popular route up the mountain is a class 3 scramble that begins in the Chamberlain Basin. Traditionally, the Pacific Northwest includes British Columbia, Washington, and Oregon, though contemporary definitions sometimes stretch to include Idaho and even parts of northern California. The Columbia Mountains cover just a small section of Idahos Panhandle, though they extend much further to the north into British Columbia and to the west and east, where they can be found in Montana and Washington. Due to its size and diversity of topography, the state of Idaho is home to a number of different regions. Once here, its a beautiful and fairly easy walk to the top of the mountain.
