[2] In the time of Stargate SG-1, the Asgard are a dying race. Due to their technological prowess, the Asgard are critical allies in Earth's fight against the Goa'uld, and later the Ori. [5] As the time-dilation device on Halla cannot keep the Replicators bottled up forever, Thor collapses Halla's sun into a black hole, but some Replicators escape. [17] Hermiod helps remove a Wraith computer virus that interferes with the ship's computer systems in "The Intruder",[18] and works with Dr. McKay on the Wraith technology during Atlantis' failed alliance with a Wraith Hive-Ship. The Asgard homeworld Orilla explodes just as the Odyssey comes under Ori attack. once again tries to contact the Asgard, but without success. [5] In the episode "Fair Game", where Thor mediates Earth's inclusion into the Protected Planets Treaty, he reveals to Jack O'Neill that the Asgard do not have the capability to win a galactic war with the Goa'uld at that time, due to a war with a greater enemy. During the negotiations to add Earth to the treaty, the Goa'uld wanted the Tau'ri to forfeit their Stargates, but settled for threatening that any Tau'ri caught off-world by a Goa'uld would be shown no mercy (3.03 "Fair Game"). As their final act, the Asgard install their latest technology on the Earth battlecruiser Odyssey, as well as their entire collected knowledge. Daniel attempted to reason with the Asgard twice: first, to not turn it on because it had some kind of unknown harmful side effect, and second, after it was turned on, to turn it off once the "unforeseen side effect" was discovered. Thor himself saw to the core's installation on the Odyssey. The Asgard were incapable of meiosis (sexual reproduction) for thousands of years. This political body apparently held all judicial, executive, and legislative powers of the Asgard government (5.05 "Red Sky"). This weakness proved critical in their war with the Replicators.[8]. In Earth history, the Asgard are the basis of Norse Mythology. This "Lost Tribe" of the Asgard arrived in Pegasus 10,000 years ago during the Ancient-Wraith War in order to conduct their "unsanctioned" genetic experiments on humans to solve their cloning problems without interference. On K'Tau, Carter manipulated the panel that controlled the recorded holographic message, and that action initiated contact with the Asgard, in this case, Freyr (5.05 "Red Sky"). The Asgard High Council forbade this type of experimentation, and this splinter group escaped in their intergalactic spaceships 10,000 years ago so as to avoid the Council's sanctions. Through the potential of Jack O'Neill, the Asgard acknowledged that they considered humanity to be the fifth race. (5.22 "Revelations"), The Asgard sought solutions to this problem aggressively. These devices, referred to on Cimmeria as The Hall of Thor's Might, enabled the Asgard to determine when a culture was advanced enough to understand that their gods were not truly gods, but advanced aliens. They appeared to have a nearly human skeleton, with collarbones, shoulder blades, and a ribcage. This page was last edited 17:52, 24 October 2008 by StargateWiki user. For more information, see Technology of the Asgard. Before that time, some Asgard took drastic steps to ensure the survival of the species, including kidnapping people from Earth to study human development. This is because they are long and boring names. (2.06 "Thor's Chariot", 9.12 "Collateral Damage"). A renegade faction of Asgard is introduced in the fifth season of Stargate Atlantis. To make a name memorable, make sure it is easy to understand and say aloud. [12], The Protected Planets Treaty is an armistice between the Goa'uld and the Asgard, first referred to specifically in "Fair Game" when Earth is included. The episode "The Fifth Race" establishes that the Asgard inhabit the galaxy of Ida, and that they were once part of an alliance of four great races with the Ancients, Nox, and Furlings.

(7.03 "Fragile Balance"), A subsequent attempt to stop their physiological degeneration using cloning had the disastrous effect of giving the entire race a rapidly progressing disease with no known cure. About two years after the demise of the Asgard at their own hands in their home galaxy, Dr. Daniel Jackson and Dr. Rodney McKay encountered a splinter group of Asgard in the Pegasus Galaxy. [15] The Asgard are no longer capable of traditional reproduction and instead perpetuate themselves through cloning, as they have the technology to upload and store Asgard consciousnesses and transfer them to new bodies. SG-1 first encounter him as a Viking holographic recording (played by Mark Gibbon) on the planet Cimmeria in "Thor's Hammer". Other planets in the treaty include Cimmeria,[1] K'Tau,[11] PX3-595,[13] the second planet of the Adara system,[3] and Galar. But the Goa'uld Anubis's advanced technologies (taken or adapted from the Ancients) rivaled that of the Asgard, allowing him to eventually ignore the treaty altogether and render it unofficially void. Family structure, social customs, and geography were left almost completely to conjecture. With Samantha Carter's help, the Replicator invasion force is destroyed. The tests were different on different worlds, but on Cimmeria, the people in question had to walk across what appeared to be a very narrow stone walkway suspended across a great void. The Asgard leader explained his dying race's desperate need to eliminate the Wraith at all costs, even if it meant the death of millions of others due to the use of the Stargates. On Cimmeria, the device put the people brave enough to try through a series of tests, both physical and mental. They also appear to be the only shields effective against Ancient drone weapons known to penetrate nearly all other kinds of shields including Ancient shields. Having lost the capacity for sexual reproduction, they perpetuate themselves by transferring their minds into successive cloned bodies. When the Replicators arrive in the Milky Way in "Gemini" and "Reckoning", Thor helps the SGC develop an effective defense. Red Sky - SG-1 finds another protected planet, K'Tau, and must plead for the Asgard's help when they cause a natural cataclysm. This group of Asgard, however, are also an enemy of humans of Pegasus because the Asgard use humans in their "unsanctioned" genetic experimentation in order to solve the Asgard's cloning problem. [6] The Asgard masquerade themselves holographically as Norse gods to the primitive peoples under their protection.

The holographic image was in stark contrast to the Asgard's actual appearance. Fair Game - Thor and the Asgard mediate negotiations between Earth and the Goa'uld System Lords, allowing Earth to be included in the Protected Planets Treaty. As far as is known, no Asgard being survived these terrible events. Thor's Hammer - SG-1 discovers Cimmeria, an Asgard-protected planet, and encounter a holographic recording of Thor -- though they do not meet the Asgard themselves. [1] The Asgard protect a number of planets in the Milky Way from Goa'uld attack under the Protected Planets Treaty. Their bodies were very slender, with minimal muscles on their frame, long arms nearly reaching their knees, and six fingers on their hands. Unnatural Selection - The Asgard enlist SG-1's help to capture the now highly-evolved Replicators in a trap, giving them thousands of years to figure out what to do with them. Unending - The Asgard commit mass suicide, calling all members of their species to their new homeworld and passing their entire technological and cultural history on to Earth (via the Odyssey's new Asgard computer core) before exploding their planet. When their planet became too toxic for them, they unsuccessfully tried to use the Attero Device to destroy the Wraith. Repeated generations of cloning has led to an irreversible degeneration of the Asgard genome. When touched, the stone activated contact to the Asgard homeworld. Knowing that human life existed in Pegasus and that the Ancients and Wraith were distracted with the war, the Lost Tribe of the Asgard carried on their experiments without interference. Their experimentation on humans in Pegasus has helped them solve some of their cloning problems, but, like their now-deceased brethren in their home galaxy, they are still suffering from diminishing returns that could very well end their race. Physiologically, the Asgard averaged about one meter in height, with grayish skin tones, small, skinny limbs, large heads and black eyes -- bearing a striking resemblance to the Roswell Greys described in countless UFO abduction stories. (2.16 "The Fifth Race", 6.12 "Unnatural Selection", 8.01 "New Order Part 1", 8.02 "New Order Part 2"). [3] After Anubis' defeat in "Lost City", there is speculation amongst the Goa'uld System Lords that the Asgard are no longer able to exercise power in the Milky Way.[6]. Asgard were typically about a meter tall, and had a light purple/gray complexion with veins, or an Asgard equivalent, visible, and smooth, waxy-looking skin. [1] They have placed tests, such as in the Hall of Thor's Might on Cimmeria, to determine when those peoples have advanced enough for the Asgard to reveal their true forms. Thor admitted at one time that the Replicators were capable of modifying the Asgard's weapons technology beyond Asgard understanding (4.01 "Small Victories Part 2"). In essence, their bodies were a genetic template, and they were incapable of sexual reproduction. This is because they arent memorable. You can share them with your friends and also you can use them for your own personal use. The fact that they regarded humans as a potential fifth race could have implied that the Alliance was still in existence. The Wraith destroyed the Asgard's intergalactic ships in the first battle. In the episodes "Nemesis" and "Small Victories", they are on the verge of overrunning the Asgard homeworld. We have a huge variety of business names that will help you to name your own business in no time. The Asgard in question was much different from modern Asgard. [3][6] Neutronium is a key element of Asgard technology. They successfully developed a multitude of advanced technologies that dwarf those of the Goa'uld, including faster-than-light travel that can launch an Asgard vessel from one galaxy to another in minutes. Here you will find some cool and catchy stargate Asgard names that you will surely like. They asked the humans to witness their suicide, and gave them a computer core containing all of the latest Asgard technology, as well as a knowledge base, including their entire recorded history. New Order, Part 2 - Thor saves O'Neill from the Ancients' knowledge in his mind, and the team helps defend the last Asgard world from a Replicator invasion, giving them a powerful weapon against their technological foes. They were once contemporaries of the Ancients, and learned much from them. Going into this room was extremely dangerous, and Daniel was hit by several bolts of electricity while McKay was protected long enough to disable the Device by yanking out its control crystal. The Asgard were known to pose as gods for a culture, as seen for two of the more primitive societies they protected, those on Cimmeria and K'Tau. However, the Asgard were still very powerful in their own right. Hermiod, named after the Norse god Hermr and voiced by Trevor Devall, is an Asgard technician assigned to the Daedalus. Under this treaty, the Goa'uld left a protected planet alone or risked suffering the consequences from the more advanced Asgard ships and weapons. Two years after their demise, a splinter group was encountered living in the Pegasus Galaxy. The fate of this splinter group remains unknown. They assumed the personae of Norse gods on many worlds, including Cimmeria (protected by Thor's Hammer), and K'Tau, a more progressive world but still heavily immersed in Norse beliefs. The Lost Tribe of the Asgard in the Pegasus Galaxy are the enemies of the Wraith because the Wraith destroy those who are technologically advanced. Ive collected some Stargate Asgard Names from different sources, including novels, movies and comics, which you can use to come up with a name for your characters in your favorite book series. The Asgard established a Protected Planets Treaty with the Goa'uld System Lords, keeping planets such as Cimmeria, K'Tau, and eventually Earth safe from direct attack. [10] These Asgard splintered from the others 10,000 years ago over their belief that they should experiment on humans to solve their cloning problems. Here is a list of short and clever names. (Stargate Atlantis: 5.11 "First Contact Part 2"). People try to avoid all the names that include hard to spell words. However this is still conjectural, as, at the time, at least one member race was presumed extinct (the Ancients), and a second race had not been seen in recent years (the Furlings). Since Cimmeria has Thor's Hammer, it was not necessary for it to be named in the treaty; it is not certain whether or not it was included. Neutronium, trinium, and naquadah are known to have been highly useful elements in their advanced technology. This group of Asgard has had a presence in Pegasus for at least 10,000 years. Point of View - SG-1 helps the SGC in an alternate universe contact the Asgard, who rescue Earth from Apophis's invasion. The Asgard had already formed several settlements by this time, and these settlements were targeted by the Wraith because they were technologically advanced. [9] The Asgard Kvasir provides assistance to Earth in "Ripple Effect", "Camelot", and "Flesh and Blood", stating that Thor and Heimdall are otherwise engaged in another galaxy. As well, it had an actual nose and a much more human set of lips. After the end of the Replicator threat, the Asgard install significant upgrades in Earth's new battlecruiser, Daedalus, and stationed an Asgard engineer, Hermiod, onboard to oversee the new technology. [2] Late in season 3, SG-1 helps to destroy Thor's ship, the Beliskner, which has been overtaken by the Replicators, in "Nemesis". It is unknown to which worlds the Asgard revealed themselves. This prevents them from acting to help K'Tau in "Red Sky" and Earth in "Fail Safe". Many figures of the race, as well as names for some of their technology, are highly suggestive of this link: Thor and his Hammer, Aegir and his ship Valhalla, Freyr, Heimdall, and Loki. At the end of season 3, the Asgard's enemy is revealed to be the Replicators, a race of machines capable of assimilating any technology they come across. (5.22 "Revelations"), The Asgard Loki sought to solve the problem of decaying genetics by cloning humans and studying those clones as potential new bodies for Asgard consciousnesses. Nemesis - The powerful enemy of the Asgard is revealed when Replicators infest Thor's ship, taking it to Earth in an attempt to spread there. (Stargate Atlantis: 1.15 "Before I Sleep", 5.10 "First Contact Part 1", 5.11 "The Lost Tribe Part 2"), McKay reactivated the Attero Device after the Asgard threatened to kill them (Daniel was going to be the first to go because he was "not that kind of scientist"). These exoskeletons also had personal defense shields that could protect them against Earth's projectile weapons, but if an Asgard was captured or killed, the suit activated a self-destruct. --Michelle 21:05, 10 June 2006 (PDT), http://www.stargate-sg1-solutions.com/w/index.php?title=Asgard&oldid=24270. Some part of the galaxy they were in was around 4 million light-years from Earth. All of the Asgard's technologies and intellectual capabilities forced them to a deadlock in a battle with an artificial species in their galaxy: the Replicators. In the series, the Asgard gave rise to Norse mythology on Earth, as well as accounts of the Roswell "Greys". The Asgard rely on the treaty to do what good they can in the Milky Way, using the threat of their superior technology to cow the System Lords into accepting the arrangement when, in fact, their resources are taxed fighting the Replicators and they would be unable to win a full-scale war with the Goa'uld. He is tasked with operation of the ship's Asgard transporter and hyperdrive engine, working primarily with Lindsey Novak. Before retreating to their home planet Orilla, the Asgard endowed the Earth vessel Odyssey with a library computer containing the sum of their knowledge and technology. They traveled to the Pegasus galaxy and continued their experiments, but were forced into hiding after the Wraith defeated the Ancients. Have you ever tried to come up with a name for a character in a roleplaying game? It had a white/gray tint to its skin, a much smaller cranium, and eyes in scale with the body. sggaminginfo screenshots
